Fire Season Begins in Five SA Districts as CFS Puts Gutters on the Checklist

ADELAIDE, South Australia, October 19, 2026 — South Australia's 2026/27 Fire Danger Season started on 15 October in five fire ban districts: Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Flinders, North East Pastoral, North West Pastoral and West Coast. Dates for the Adelaide Metropolitan and Mount Lofty Ranges districts are still to be declared. "Clearing the debris lets us check how the gutter and downpipe system is working, and photographs help the owner understand any separate repair recommendations before deciding what to arrange," said Mikhail Yourtaev, Owner, Pro Roof and Gutter.

The CFS announced the early start on 1 October. Its home preparation advice asks owners to clear gutters, cut back trees overhanging the home, and repair loose tiles or gaps in the roof, reducing the material embers can catch on and the gaps they can enter through. The CFS's roof guidance points to gaps along ridge caps, the gutter line and fascia boards as the places to check, and it asks every household to review and practise its Bushfire Survival Plan.

AFAC's spring 2026 bushfire outlook also identified a heightened risk of fire in parts of South Australia.

What a Pre-Summer Gutter Clean Covers
