Sea Bags Will Donate 20% of Gross Sales to Support Early Breast Cancer Detection, Patient Support, and Breast Density Education
PORTLAND, Maine, Oct. 20, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In alignment with its corporate mission to give back to the community, Sea Bags today announced a new Breast Cancer Fundraising Campaign in partnership with National Breast Cancer Foundation® and Carrie Lyn Cares. Through this campaign, 20% of gross sales from the 2026 Hope In Bloom Collection will be donated directly to National Breast Cancer Foundation to support early detection, education, and patient support services for those affected by breast cancer.
The campaign emphasizes both fundraising and critical education, specifically advocating for additional imaging for women with dense breast tissue rated at levels C and D. According to the FDA, National Cancer Institute, CDC, and American Cancer Society, nearly half of U.S. women age 40 and older have dense breast tissue, which can make cancers significantly more difficult to detect on standard mammograms. Enhanced MRI screening saves lives across every stage of diagnosis and treatment—from initial screenings to early brain MRI screenings for high-risk Stage II, Stage III, or metastatic breast cancer.
Beth Greenlaw, Sea Bags CEO and President, says, "At Sea Bags, we have been raising money for breast cancer awareness for the last 20 years, but it was only this year that I was made aware of the increased cancer risks 50% of women face with dense breast tissue. Abbreviated breast MRI screening for anyone with a C or D breast density is our best course of action."
Each Hope In Bloom style encourages women to know their density with direct links to online educational resources. Each bag includes mailable postcards designed to help consumers educate friends and family about breast density scores and self-advocacy for supplemental imaging. Greenlaw says, "We chose this design because the clusters on the hydrangeas are a beautiful way to show breast density. Additionally, the three colors of the hydrangeas represent metastatic breast cancer."
Kevin Lawrence, Founder of Carrie Lyn Cares says, "Many women don't realize what dense breast tissue means or how it raises the risk of breast cancer. Traditional mammograms can miss up to half of small tumors in dense breasts, so supplemental screening is very important. My wife, Carrie Lyn, had Category C dense tissue, and without the extra testing, her cancer went unnoticed on regular mammograms until she found it herself at Stage IIIC. Knowing your breast density and asking for extra screening can save lives."
Handcrafted in Portland, Maine from recycled sails, the new limited-edition tote and wristlet will be available at Sea Bags stores and on their website. Retail prices for the tote are $190, and the large wristlet is $45, available until December 2026.
"At the National Breast Cancer Foundation, we believe that knowledge is a powerful tool," said Douglas Feil, NBCF Chief Program Officer. "Understanding breast density and individual risk factors can help women have more informed conversations with their healthcare providers about the screening that may be right for them. We're grateful to partner with Carrie Lyn Cares and Sea Bags to raise awareness, encourage women to know their density and risk, and help connect more women with potentially lifesaving information and resources."
